Happy New Year!
Hope this finds you all well and enjoying getting back to the books. We have two more meetings for this year and I hope you will find them interesting.
Our first meeting will be at the Starving Artist’s Studios in Newport News, on February 3 from 12PM to 2PM. Here you each will be able to choose and paint a piece of pottery. The cost is $8 for the studio fee + the cost of whatever it is you choose to paint. There is a very large variety of costs from $2 -$100+ however they do have a large variety in the $10-$15 range. Come ready to paint and wear something that can get paint on it (Just in case). Parents you are welcome to participate with your child. Please email Faith Candusso at candosoart@yahoo.com and let me know how many will be participating by January 30th. Payment will be due when you arrive on February 3rd.
Our second meeting is to Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern – Monday, March 12 at 9AM. Our Nu Kappa homeschool honor society group is having a field trip to the Tavern in Heathsville, and we are opening it up to any homeschoolers who might be interested. The website is rhhtfoundation.org. The volunteers will present a program for us on the “arts” of the late 1700 and early 1800′s. There will be a historic introduction to the Tavern, then 4 stations – Weaving and Spinning, Quilting, Woodworking and Blacksmithing. They need to know how many children will be attending, since they will be split into 4 groups and rotate to each station. There is no fee, but they do accept donations. So if you’d like to come, please RSVP to Faith Candusso at candosoart@yahoo.com with number and ages of children attending ASAP (deadline March 1st,). Homeschooler and Nu Kappa Member Jacob Headley blacksmiths here.
We will see you there!
